Inside Sales Manager at Herkules Hebetechnik in Kassel
Thorsten Lamm
Managing a career and family life can be a real challenge. For Thorsten Lamm, Inside Sales Manager at Hedson in Kassel, Germany, it has proven not only possible, but also enjoyable. – If you want to move things forward and develop both yourself and your work, this is a really good job. I have the possibility to work from home, but most of the time I’m onsite, he says.
After studying industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering, Thorsten Lamm began his career at Hedson in 2010. Having advanced through various roles, he is now Inside Sales Manager, leading a team of ten. – I don’t have many rules. I trust my team to do their job. When you give people space, respect, and trust, it works well. There are no bad questions, and I’m here to support them.
Becoming a parent is a major life change, and combining it with a busy career adds a whole new balancing act to everyday life. – I planned my parental leave early, coordinated with HR, and chose the months that worked best for me to stay home with the baby. To be on parental leave has never been an issue here – though I know in some companies it can be much more complicated. Flexibility, both at work and at home, is key to balancing it all, he says.
– Some days are challenging, but it’s definitely doable, and I get full support from the company. If my child is sick, I can work from home. There’s no debate about being there for your family when needed. Thorsten’s loyalty to Hedson throughout his career shows why people stay when everything falls into place.
– The most important thing is to feel comfortable where you work. Having great colleagues makes a big difference. I was welcomed with open arms, and it’s wonderful to be able to talk to everyone like a friend. We really have a strong and positive company culture. – I’ve thought about trying something else, but whenever I brought it up, I was given the opportunity to try new roles. You can grow and make changes here if you want.
When asked about his motivation, Thorsten says:
– To make things better—both improving myself and the company. I’ve had many opportunities to develop, which is also why I’m still here. What I appreciate most are the contacts with different partners and the variety of nationalities. You learn something new every day and gain a better understanding of people.
To keep his energy up, Thorsten has a few strategies:
– I started running two years ago, and that has been great for me. Being with my family also gives me energy, as do the friendships here at Hedson. It’s always fun to come to work, Monday to Friday
